We’re delighted to announce that we have another CD on the way! We’ve just returned from a wonderful weekend in Oxford where we’ve been recording our latest disc with the help of Gary Cole and the team at Regent Records. The recording will comprise a beautiful selection of choral pieces with connections to the Celtic nations – Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Cornwall – and it’ll be out later this year. Read more
We had a wonderful time at our Christmas Charity Gala concert on 18th December in aid of Tenovus Cancer Care, and it’s great to hear that others enjoyed it too! We’re thrilled that one of Britain’s best-loved composers, John Rutter, has agreed to join us for the day on 12th November for a Come and Sing event, hosted by us in the Sports Hall of Howell’s School, Llandaff.
This event is open to ALL singers – whether you’re young or old, very experienced or a bit rusty, we’d be delighted to see you there. An inspiring conductor as well as a fantastic composer, John Rutter will take you through his beautiful Requiem – perfect for Remembrance Sunday – and a wide range of his other popular works, such as Look to the Day, A Flower Remembered, The Gift of Life, Amazing Grace, and many more. Accompanying will be Cantemus’ very own Music Director:Huw Williams, who is also Director of Music at the Chapel Royal, St James’ Palace.
The schedule for the day is as follows:
10am – Registration
11am – First session (no break)
12.45 – Lunch (not included, singers are advised to bring their own)
2.00- Second session
3.30 – Break for tea and coffee (provided)
4.00 – Final session
4.45 – End of event
Tickets cost £21 for adults, £11 for students and are free for under 18s. It was a privilege to be part of a wonderful evening of Mozart at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama last Saturday (23rd April), performing two of his best-loved sacred works – the Great Mass in C Minor, written to celebrate the composer’s marriage to his wife Constanze, and the enduringly popular Requiem. Over the Easter break we released a track recorded live at our recent concert at Ewenny Priory on our YouTube channel: William Byrd’s joyful motet “Laudibus in Sanctis”. Written in a madrigalian style, with evocative word-painting and dance rhythms, it’s an exuberant setting of Psalm 150. Have a listen to it here! Read more
