Cantemus Chamber Choir Wales

Cantemus is an experienced chamber choir of up to 30 singers that draws its membership from Cardiff and the surrounding counties. It has become established as one of Wales' finest chamber choirs, performing to the highest standard. The choir performs a wide range of music from the Renaissance to the present day, with the music of J. S. Bach featuring prominently. Cantemus has established an enviable reputation for stylish performances of his music.

The choir regularly works with professional soloists and orchestral players of national and international repute, and has broadcast on BBC Radio 3 (In Tune and The Choir) and Classic FM. The choir makes biennial international tours. In 2002 it appeared in Paris; in 2004 it undertook an "Arctic" tour in Northern Norway and in 2006 gave concerts in Southern Spain. In March 2008 they travelled to Perugia, Italy.   Details of past performances can be found here.

Cantemus recently released their first CD - The Contingent World - consisting of music specially composed for them by Ian Lawson and Ben Heneghan (click here to listen to a few tracks). It was featured on the BBC Radio 3 programme The Choir and has been played on Classic FM.

Over the next 18 months Cantemus are undertaking a series of three Mozart concerts, culminating in a performance of Mozart's Requiem.  Click here for the latest details of these exciting events.

At the end of 2010 Robert Court will stand down as our Musical Director after 12 years, having transformed the choir from a small madrigal group to its current position as one of the leading chamber choirs in Wales.   We are delighted to welcome Huw Williams as his successor, who will start working with Cantemus later this year in preparation for the 2011 performance season.   A brief biography of Huw can be found here.

Cantemus is promoting ¡Sing Cuba!, two exciting workshops in Cuban choral music for all singers.  Led by René Alvarez of Cuban Combination, these will take place on 25th and 26th September 2010 in the Gate Arts Centre in Cardiff.  For more details see here.
