“Incisive, thrilling singing, wonderful to hear” Andrew Dickson, Guardian arts writer
Cantemus Chamber Choir, based in Cardiff, is fast establishing a reputation as one of the country’s finest choirs. With an experienced membership of around thirty voices, our conductor is Huw Williams, Director of Music at the Chapel Royal, St James’ Palace. Our President is the internationally-renowned countertenor, James Bowman. We sing a wide range of music from the Renaissance to the present day and we’re particularly noted for our performances of Baroque music. We’ve featured on the BBC ‘One Show’ and BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’, and have performed Handel’s Messiah at Buckingham Palace, where we received a standing ovation. We appear frequently at classical music festivals and recently gave the world premiere of a major new work by Giles Swayne at the St David’s Cathedral Festival.
Working regularly with musicians and soloists of national and international repute, we maintain a busy concert diary and have undertaken numerous successful tours. Our latest CD, Nativity, was released on the Regent Record label in November 2015, receiving widespread critical acclaim.
Our CD of Christmas music, Nativity, is available from this website and from all mainstream retailers including Amazon and Prestoclassical. It’s also available for download from iTunes. For more details, visit our Recordings page. Listen to some sample tracks here!
Delighted to receive this wonderful four-star review in the Western Mail for Saturday's Mozart concert: "This captivativing performance of the incomplete work by the Cantemus Chamber Choir got to the heart of Mozart's final composition with impressive clarity and imagination, performed with grace and style by a choir which had a deep understanding of its emotional depths....quite exquisite solo singing by soprano Elin Manahan Thomas...Mozart's God-given genius shone through this performance." ...
